The Casio G-Shock DW-5500C was the second G-Shock, released in 1985 and marketed as the "G-SHOCK II" after the original DW-5000C of 1983. Its squared resin case carries the same recessed dial and protective side lugs as the first model but adds mud resistance, the sealing improvement Casio advertised on the caseband, making it the line's first dust- and mud-resistant watch. (Casio) The black resin build is broken only by red accents at the side pushers and a monochrome LCD driving time, alarm, stopwatch, and countdown, and its angular case sits between the round DW-5000-era look and the square DW-5600 that would define the family.
