The Rolex Submariner 1680/8 is the solid 18k yellow-gold version of the reference 1680, the first Submariner to carry a date. Where the steel 1680 is a tool watch, the gold /8 (40 mm Oyster case, matching gold bracelet, black bezel insert, and the raised luminous "nipple" hour markers of precious-metal Submariners of the era) is an explicit luxury object. This example wears a dial co-signed by retailer Tiffany & Co. beneath the Rolex coronet, a period practice in which dealers added their own name; genuine Tiffany-stamped Rolex dials of the 1970s–80s are now especially collectible.
