The Bulova American Clipper name spans different generations of dress watches. A contemporary Washington, D.C. newspaper advertisement offered a 17-jewel Bulova American Clipper on 3 December 1936, establishing the model-family name by that date. Karen's watch in Love Actually (2003) is a 1930s rectangular mechanical piece with a cream Roman-numeral dial and small seconds.
