The CWC 1980 Royal Navy Divers took the Royal Navy's diving contract off Rolex. Cabot Watch Company won the 1980 tender and replaced the issued Submariner on Clearance Divers' wrists. It was not a quartz: a self-winding ETA 2783 ran in a 44 mm case built by Dodane in France, with a hashed acrylic bezel insert, sword hands and a tritium dial, and only about a hundred were issued before the 1981 revision moved production to an M.R.P. case and the ETA 2872. The quartz Royal Navy diver is a later, separate specification issued from 1983, reissued today as the CWC 1983 RN Divers Quartz Reissue.
