The Casio Baby-G BG-169R-8 is the grey member of the BG-169R series, and the suffix denotes colour and nothing else. It shares the series' 45.9 × 42.6 mm case of resin and stainless steel, shock resistance and 200 m water resistance (twice the rating most Baby-G models carry) and the same module 3189, later revised to 3252, whose 25-entry data bank sits behind a blue-green electro-luminescent backlight. (Casio, 2011; Casio Operation Guide 3189/3252) Grey has not meant one thing across the reference's life: the 2009 catalogue watch, at $79, was an opaque gloss grey with a silver display surround, while the BG-169R-8 in Casio's later catalogues is translucent smoke resin, and the closely related BG-169R-8B pairs that clear grey case with a turquoise ring around the LCD.
