The Casio F-91W is the resin digital Casio introduced in 1989 and has produced in the tens of millions since, making it one of the best-selling watches ever made. A rectangular LCD in a 38 mm resin case shows time with seconds, day and date, a daily alarm, an hourly signal, and a 1/100-second stopwatch, lit by a small side-button micro-light rather than a full backlight panel, all at a price that has stayed near $10–20 for decades. Its ubiquity and long battery life made it a default cheap watch worldwide; that same ubiquity also gave it an outsized cultural footprint, from a wardrobe shorthand for characters with no money to spare to appearances in news coverage of its use in improvised devices.
