Patek Philippe Calatrava

Worn by Ryan Gosling as The Driver. Real-adjacent source design: the fictional prop is based on a Patek Philippe Calatrava-style dress watch, but has an oversized luminous small-seconds dial and other non-production details. It is not an exact Patek reference. Prop master Will Blount said five or six replicas were made; the prominent ticking was added by Foley artists. (GQ) Montres de Luxe instead names the prop an exact Patek Philippe Calatrava ref. 5196G in white gold, without noting the custom dial and case departures the prop master described. (Montres de Luxe) Time+Tide names the prop master, "Drive's prop master Will Blount created a fake Patek chronograph that was unlike anything actually offered by the brand", quoting him that "we used five or six replicas" because a real watch would break, describes it as steel-cased with a sub-dial at 6 on a brown leather strap, and places the steering-wheel shot at 2:51 in the opening getaway. Michael Kors MK1839

Worn by Bryan Cranston as Shannon. Shannon wears a blacked-out fashion chronograph, and the casting of it is exact: a limping garage owner in hock to the mob, wearing the watch of a man who wants to look like he is doing better than he is. Premiere Props sold the screen-worn example in December 2011, acquired from the production company, identifying it as a Michael Kors MK1839 and placing it in the scene where Shannon talks to Driver on the film-set stunt sequence. That reference appears in no Michael Kors catalogue, and the closely similar 45 mm MK8139 does, so the number rests on the auction record alone. Breitling for Bentley

Worn by Ron Perlman as Nino. Real-adjacent: a custom-made replica, not a Breitling. Premiere Props sold it on 10 December 2011 (lot 304), acquired from the production company, as "a replica version of a Breitling watch with faceted bezel and matching link band" with two costume rings, "worn by the character 'Nino,' portrayed by actor Ron Perlman": "Nino's signature accessories worn with different wardrobe combinations throughout the film". The essay adds that Nino wears the replica in a promotional poster image. Probable identification. The lot photographs show the design the replica copies: a large steel chronograph with a knurled bezel, a silver dial with three registers and a polished multi-link bracelet, the pattern of the Breitling for Bentley chronographs. The catalogue names the maker only. (Premiere Props lot 304)
