The Patek Philippe Calatrava traces to reference 96, introduced in 1932 as Patek's first formally tracked reference under the newly arrived Stern family ownership, and the archetype for the round dress watch since. Its 31 mm three-part case with tapered lugs and ivory dial ran through four in-house movement generations, from an early LeCoultre-based caliber to the 27-AM-400, and it popularized the Calatrava cross, a mark Patek had trademarked in 1887 after the medieval Knights of Calatrava.
