Worn by Pierce Brosnan as James Bond. The film that moved Bond from Rolex to Omega, a partnership that continues today. Costume designer Lindy Hemming chose the blue-dial Seamaster for a former Royal Navy commander; the screen watch is the quartz 2541.80.00 (calibre 1538), which Q-branch fits with a bezel-activated laser and a remote detonator. (Omega; Bond Lifestyle) Montres de Luxe independently corroborates the Seamaster Professional and both gadgets, the helium-valve-housed laser Bond uses to cut through the armoured train floor and the mine detonator triggered later against GoldenEye's Cuban control room, and notes that the renegade Agent 006 (Sean Bean) wears an older Seamaster of his own. (Montres de Luxe) Watches of Espionage's Caleb Daniels, drawing on Hemming's New York Times interview, quotes her that "There was no product placement incentive in 1995 whatsoever" and that Omega "gave us the watches for nothing", that Rolex "had become rather flash" and "part of a city boy culture", and that Omega "was perfect for a Naval commander who dived and rescued people"; the site's earlier editorial sets the quartz 2541.80 against Fleming's Rolex and repeats Jean-Claude Biver's reported $2 million figure for the franchise deal. Worn by Sean Bean as Alec Trevelyan. Bond's former colleague, Agent 006, "wears the same watch, but with a black leather strap", per Bond Lifestyle, which also publishes a frame of Trevelyan holding both Seamasters "for a perfect close-up". In the 1986-set pre-title sequence both agents already wear what looks like a Seamaster on black leather, a design not introduced until 1993. (Bond Lifestyle)
