The Hamilton K-454 is a self-winding dress watch Hamilton produced from 1955 to 1957, its 33.9 mm one-piece 10-karat gold-filled case built around a silver dial with applied 18-karat gold hour markers and unusual flush gold spokes that radiate from the center and align with the case's angled lugs. Collectors nicknamed it the "Sputnik" after the design drew comparisons to the Soviet satellite launched in October 1957, even though the watch itself predates the satellite by two years; the name was never used by Hamilton. It runs the 17-jewel, Swiss-made Hamilton calibre 661. (Wolfe Vintage Watches; Hamilton Chronicles)
