IWC Portugieser
More actions
The IWC Portugieser is IWC's navigation-bred dress line, born of a 1939 order from two Portuguese importers, Rodrigues and Teixeira, who wanted observation-instrument precision on the wrist; Schaffhausen answered by casing the hunter pocket-watch calibre 74, producing a watch drastically oversized for its day and fixing the family's template of broad open dials, applied Arabic numerals, leaf hands, and a railway minute track. The Portugieser Automatic photographed here is the 2015 IW500704, on the Pellaton-wound calibre 52010. (IWC) No single reference covers the line's screen record: Gustavo Fring's white-dial example in Breaking Bad (2008) shows the family's dial architecture, but the frames stop short of any one model, and the references named in watch media postdate that series.
