John Lennon (1940-1980) was an English musician, co-founder, rhythm guitarist and co-lead songwriter of The Beatles, sharing the most successful songwriting partnership in popular music with Paul McCartney. After the band's 1970 breakup he continued as a solo artist and peace activist alongside Yoko Ono until his 1980 murder in New York City. (Wikipedia)
