The Lady Elgin was the National Watch Company's first dedicated ladies' movement, introduced May 20, 1869: a 10-size design by Charles S. Moseley that shrank the firm's bulky 18-size architecture into a 3/4-plate, key-wind, key-set caliber with gilded plates, 15 jewels, Burt's patented safety pinion, and Moseley's own hairspring-stud patent. It sold as the maker's luxury ladies' grade and proved popular enough to spawn a run of similarly named companion grades, including the Francis Rubie, Gail Borden, and Dexter Street.
