Marcello Mastroianni (1924-1996) was an Italian actor, regarded as one of Italy's defining screen performers of the 20th century. He became an international star through his collaborations with Federico Fellini, as a disillusioned tabloid columnist in La Dolce Vita (1960) and a creatively-stalled director in 8½ (1963), and holds a record three Oscar nominations for foreign-language performances, for Divorce Italian Style (1961), A Special Day (1977), and Dark Eyes (1987).
