The Rolex Daytona 16528 is the yellow-gold version of the first automatic Cosmograph Daytona, introduced in 1988 and made until 2000 — the reference that ended nearly three decades of hand-wound Daytonas that never sold especially well and set the model on the path to becoming Rolex's most sought-after chronograph. Its movement is the calibre 4030, built on Zenith's high-beat El Primero but reworked by Rolex through some two hundred changes before they signed it, which is why the run is nicknamed the "Zenith Daytona". A 40 mm gold Oyster case with screw-down chronograph pushers, a sapphire crystal, and a 72-hour reserve carry it, and this generation fixed the Daytona's proportions and template for everything that followed.
