The Stocker & Yale 184A is a manually wound American military-issue field watch introduced under the MIL-W-46374D Type 2 specification issued in October 1986. Its black dial and hands use painted tritium, and its composite case back identifies the 184A by model, specification and National Stock Number. (Chronopedia; Anderson & Garland) Stocker & Yale of Salem, New Hampshire supplied issue watches to the US armed forces through the 1980s and 1990s alongside its better-known 490. The 184 was withdrawn after a 1988 depot inspection found examples emitting up to 100 times the permitted radiation level, prompting development of the tritium-tube 490. (Monochrome)
