Candice Bergen is an American actress who began as a fashion model before her 1966 screen debut in The Group. She earned an Oscar nomination for Starting Over and a BAFTA nomination for Gandhi, then won five Emmy Awards as the title character of the sitcom Murphy Brown and later played Shirley Schmidt on Boston Legal.
