John Cazale (1935–1978) was an American stage and screen actor who appeared in only five films over seven years, among them The Godfather and The Godfather Part II as the weak, doomed Fredo Corleone, The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon, which brought him a Golden Globe nomination, and The Deer Hunter, completed while he was dying of lung cancer.
