Lauren Vélez, born in Brooklyn in 1964 to a Puerto Rican family, is an American actress with a run of New York-set police and prison drama (I Like It Like That, New York Undercover, and Dr. Gloria Nathan on HBO's Oz) before seven seasons as Lt.
