River Phoenix (1970-1993) was an American actor who broke out as a teenager in Stand by Me (1986) and earned an Academy Award nomination for Running on Empty (1988). He went on to play a young Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) and starred alongside Keanu Reeves in My Own Private Idaho (1991) before his death in 1993 at age 23. (Wikipedia)
