Tallulah Bankhead (1902-1968) was an American actress from an Alabama political dynasty who became a London stage sensation in the 1920s before returning to Broadway for The Little Foxes and The Skin of Our Teeth. Her husky voice and public wit made her a celebrity well beyond her comparatively few films; the New York Film Critics Circle named her best actress for Constance Porter, the mink-clad journalist adrift in Alfred Hitchcock's Lifeboat.
