Vittorio Emanuele, Prince of Naples (12 February 1937 – 3 February 2024) was the only son of Umberto II, Italy's last king, and the last person to hold the title heir apparent to the Italian throne before the monarchy's 1946 abolition. He is best known outside royalist circles for the night of 18 August 1978, when he fatally shot 19-year-old German tourist Dirk Hamer off Cavallo island and was later acquitted; he appears as himself, interviewed decades later, in the Netflix documentary series The King Who Never Was (2023).
