86 (stylized 86 -Eighty Six-) is a science-fiction military television anime produced by A-1 Pictures for Aniplex, Kadokawa, and Bandai Spirits, adapting Asato Asato's light novel series of the same name. It aired in two cours totaling 23 episodes, from April 11 to June 20, 2021, and from October 3, 2021, to March 19, 2022. The Republic of San Magnolia claims its war against the Giadian Empire's autonomous Legion has cost no lives, quietly interning anyone outside its silver-haired "Alba" majority as the disposable "Eighty-Six" and sending them to die in unmanned-in-name-only combat units. Handler Vladilena "Lena" Milizé is assigned to the Spearhead squadron, commanded by Shinei "Shin" Nouzen, the sole survivor of every unit he has led, and the two form a bond across the wall meant to keep San Magnolia's citizens from ever having to see the people fighting for them.
