The King of Braves GaoGaiGar (Yūsha-Ō GaoGaiGar), the eighth entry in Sunrise's long-running Brave franchise, aired on Nagoya TV and TV Asahi affiliates from February 1, 1997 to January 31, 1998. Guy Shishioh, a former astronaut rebuilt as a cyborg, pilots the lion-motif mecha Galeon, which combines with a fleet of GaoMachines to form the titular robot GaoGaiGar; alongside the mysterious boy Mamoru Amami, Guy leads the U.N. defense organization GGG (Gutsy Galaxy Guard) against an invasion by alien mechanoids called Zonders while the story gradually reveals Mamoru's own connection to them. The watch connection arrived 25 years later, when Seiko built the GGG mark, the mecha Liner Gaou, and Guy's Goldion Hammer finishing weapon into an official anniversary chronograph sold through Animate rather than placing a watch on a character's wrist in the series.
