Danielle Trussoni's novel, copyright 2010, begins at St. Rose Convent, where Sister Evangeline, left as a girl in the care of the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration, discovers a collection of letters going back sixty years. They draw her into an ancient conflict between the Society of Angelologists and the Nephilim, whom the cover copy calls the descendants of angels and humans. (Open Library)
Watches
- Patek Philippe watch
- Percival Grigori, tall, pale and brittle, waits on a bench in Central Park in the snow, beyond the rush of Christmas shoppers, for Verlaine, the man he is paying for research. He was very clear on the telephone about the time, twelve o'clock sharp. He looks at his watch, a solid-gold Patek Philippe: it is 12:05, and he taps his cane on the frozen sidewalk. The maker is named; the model is not.
