CB McKenzie's novel was published by Minotaur Books, a Thomas Dunne book, in 2016. Bob Reynolds, a newcomer to a small town in northwest Arkansas, finds a body in the creek, and when it disappears he begins to doubt what little he knows about a town, and a sheriff, that seem less welcoming by the day. Watches
- Timex (unidentified model)
- Standing on the bridge after the sheriff has written off his report as a false alarm, Reynolds finds his watch dead at seven thirty-three, slips the cheap Timex off his wrist and throws it upstream, watching the cheap piece of plastic float under the bridge; without a watch his whole arm feels strange. At Christmas Miss Ollie gives him a modestly priced, water-resistant Timex wristwatch (p. 209). The maker is named; the model is not.
Source text: I'd worn a watch, every day and every night, since I was in grade school, usually a cheap Timex, so without a watch on my wrist my whole arm felt strange, even more insubstantial than as per usual.
