Allan Topol's 2004 novel opens in a presidential election year: Senator Charles Boyd, pulling ahead of President Webster, is found dead after anonymous charges against him, and U.S. attorney C. J. Cady and Boyd's campaign manager Taylor Ferrari doubt it was suicide. Webster's attorney general and campaign manager, his old crony Hugh McDermott, is the man Ferrari calls a sleaze. (Open Library)
