Harley Jane Kozak's third Wollie mystery starts with a message on an answering machine: the television producer David Zetrakis, once Wollie's boyfriend and more seriously her friend Joey Rafferty Horowitz's, is dead, and Joey is soon a suspect. Near the end Wollie and a young man called Apollo are locked in a stripped editing room, in a building due to be blown up, with Joey unconscious on the floor. (Open Library)

- While Apollo stands on a wastebasket looking for ceiling ducts, Wollie goes over Joey for anything that might become a tool. There is no gun under her arm: only a silver-and-gold Ebel, diamond stud earrings, an ankle bracelet and the wedding ring of a husband about to be buried at Mount Sinai. Wollie's own inventory is worse, hoop earrings and bobby pins. The maker is named; the model is not.
