Devil's Waltz (1993)

Jonathan Kellerman's Alex Delaware novel, published by Bantam in 1993, sends the child psychologist to a hospital where twenty-one-month-old Cassie Jones keeps falling ill for no reason her pediatrician, Dr. Stephanie Eves, can find. Delaware's instinct tells him someone is deliberately making Cassie sick, and at the head of the list of suspects are her parents, Chip and Cindy Jones. (Open Library)

Swatch watch: Meeting Cindy Jones at her sleeping daughter's bedside, in a room full of LuvBunnies, Delaware notes a plaid cotton shirt over faded jeans, medium-heeled sandals and a pink plastic Swatch: not the post-debutante, VIP daughter-in-law he had expected of the family. Late in the novel she opens her front door to him glancing at her Swatch. The maker is named; the model is not.
