Fundamental Disch collects Thomas M. Disch's short fiction, opening with "Casablanca" (1967), in which an elderly American couple on holiday in Morocco learn that the United States has been destroyed. Fred Richmond's retirement watch measures how quickly their standing collapses. (Open Library)

- In "Casablanca", Fred Richmond checks the Accutron that Iowa Mutual Life presented to him at retirement and gives the time in the radio jingle's phrase, "Bulova watch time". Later, out of money, he takes the Accutron off, tells a Moroccan agent it would cost $120 wholesale in America, and sells it for a few dirhams; the agent straps it on beside his own watch. The line is named; the specific Accutron model is not.
