Incinerator

Timothy Hallinan's Simeon Grist mystery was published by William Morrow in 1992. Rolex watch
Grist calls on Dr. Nathan Blinkins, his old graduate adviser in comparative religions, for a list of students who specialized in fire religions. As Blinkins lectures that all religions are fire religions at heart, he gnaws at a nail, and a thick steel Rolex Oyster glints on his wrist (p. 111); asked to go on, he looks at the Rolex with some irritation (p. 112). Oyster names the waterproof case Rolex uses across many lines, so the text does not settle the model. Burt's imitation Rolex (p. 96) is a different watch. The maker is named; the model is not.

Source text: He brought one of the hands to his mouth again and gnawed at a nail. A thick steel Rolex Oyster glinted on his wrist. (Timothy Hallinan, Incinerator, scan cataloged as William Morrow, 1992, p. 111; Internet Archive scan OCR)
