Fiona McCallum's novel, published by Mira Books in Australia in 2011, follows Nicola Harvey, an Adelaide television reporter who has just won a Gold Walkley for her investigation of an airline crash. Her boss sends her to report on the drought from the small town of Nowhere Else, where the locals are tight-lipped and the story turns out to touch her own past. (Open Library)
Watches
- TAG Heuer (unidentified model)
- The morning after the awards, Nicola lies in bed following her fiancé Scott's bathroom routine by ear, then rolls over to watch him bend for the Tag Heuer on his bedside table. He is a stockbroker of almost forty who was too tired for her the night before but not too tired to hang up his clothes, in a wardrobe where the shirts run from stripes to checks to solid colours in order of brightness. The text gives him no surname in the pages read. The maker is named; the model is not.
Source text: She rolled over for a better look as he bent to retrieve his Tag Heuer watch from the bedside table, admiring the muscles of his smooth, toned back and strong shoulders.
