Probable Cause

Grif Stockley's legal thriller, copyright 1992 and read here in the Ivy Books paperback, is narrated by Gideon Page, a former public defender in Blackwell County, Arkansas, who is fired by his firm and takes one case with him. Dr. Andrew Chapman, a black psychologist, is charged with manslaughter after a girl with severe intellectual disabilities dies in his care during an electric shock procedure meant to stop her injuring herself. Watches

Timex (unidentified model)
The morning after a man who hates his client beat him in a parking lot and knocked out a tooth, Gideon tells his daughter Sarah part of the story from his bed. Dressed for Mass, which she has not attended for two years, she looks down at the cheap Timex he gave her for her seventeenth birthday the week before and offers to stay home. The maker is named; the model is not.
