Sonia Icilyn's Kimani romance opens with Avril Vasconcelos, winner of the Jamaican Festival pageant, saying no at the altar to Maxwell George Armstrong III, heir to the fortune of Britain's first home-grown Caribbean food packaging company, in the church at Grantchester. The lawyer Dale Lambert of a Finsbury Park firm takes her case against the Armstrongs, and her mother Bertha and stepfather Lennie watch her fall for him. The author, born in Sheffield, published her first romance, Significant Other, in 1993. (Open Library)

Omega (unidentified model): Dale Lambert, the Finsbury Park lawyer who takes Avril's case against the Armstrongs and returns her stepfather's cheque for it, finds her alone at a sporting function in the lobby of the Victoria Park Plaza Hotel, glances at his Omega and tells her they have been there ten minutes. Much later, waking after a night with him with her clothes strewn across the floor, Avril looks for a clock and reads 10:30 a.m. from the Omega he has left on the bedside cabinet. The maker is named; the model is not.
