Olga Bicos's 1997 novel pairs Dr. McCall Sayer, a scientist on the run with a formula for sexual attraction who has reinvented herself as a blackjack player, with Jake Donovan, the ex-attorney who manages a New Orleans riverboat casino and watches her win from the pit.
