Smokeout (2000)

From IMWDb
Smokeout

S. V. Date's comic novel of Florida politics was published by Putnam in 2000. An anti-tobacco bill is before the state legislature in Tallahassee, and, in the jacket's words, ruthless executives, venal politicians and sexy lobbyists reach critical mass as the campaign comes down to its final days. Rolex watch
Martin Remy, the lobbyist whom a rival credits with a stable of young women, sits on the couch in T. C. Tuttle's inner office while Tuttle bawls out other lobbyists over the phone, and checks the Rolex on his wrist out of the corner of his eye: nineteen minutes, then twenty-six, late for lunch with a new client (p. 31). When Tuttle buttonholes him later about legislation, he checks it again and says he has three other weasels to track down (p. 88). The maker is named; the model is not.
