Nina Lansdale's novel of romantic suspense was published by Arbor House in 1975; the copyright is in the name of Marilyn Meeske Sorel. Kelley Rogers is summoned to Ibiza by her sister's urgent letter and, by the jacket's account, is drawn into a baffling hunt for her missing sister among the remnants of Spanish aristocracy and cynical lotus-eaters from the Continent. Watches
- Timex (unidentified model)
- Inspector Fernando Jones of Madrid's homicide squad, known as El Dedo for his missing forefinger and the illegitimate son of a British consul, wears an American Timex. Over fish soup at The Bull and Dove he asks its owner, Peaky, to say whether bones found in a cave are human, looks at the watch and says he will stay for the Romeria that night (p. 15). He consults it again while questioning the Baroness about a drained dog and a gold medallion (p. 133), and before ordering a helicopter on alert whose fuel his superiors will not want to pay for (p. 199). The maker is named; the model is not.
Source text: The Inspector checked his Timex wristwatch. His superiors were not going to want to endorse the cost of helicopter fuel, but there was no alternative. (Nina Lansdale, The White Island, scan cataloged as Arbor House, 1975, p. 199; Internet Archive scan OCR)
