Paul Henissart's espionage novel, published by Simon and Schuster in 1976, turns on a plot to assassinate Dr. Robert Winter, the celebrated shaper of American foreign policy, who arrives in Hamburg to prepare a summit and who is secretly passing information to the Russians. Colonel Edouard Rappaport, the American-educated Hungarian secret-police officer who is Winter's contact, discovers too late that he is himself the object of a plot. (Open Library)
Watches
- Omega (unidentified model)
- Rappaport's man Ferber has just shot Winter with a silenced pistol through the open window of the Taunus, in a mist that deadens the sound. Rappaport reasons that only the car and the name Wallace Rogers connect them to the dead man, looks at his Omega wristwatch, which reads 00:55, and works out how long the homicide squad will need to trace the registration to Avis and the airport rental office. The maker is named; the model is not.
