The Yummy Mummy (2006)

Polly Williams's first novel, whose first publication Open Library dates to 2006 and which Hyperion issued in the United States in 2007, is narrated by Amy Crane, a PR executive who, months after the birth of her daughter Evie, feels invisible and overweight until she meets Alice, a Pilates-practising, Blahnik-wearing yummy mummy who takes her in hand. The jacket copy and the copyright page of the American edition supply the description; the British edition was titled The Rise and Fall of a Yummy Mummy. (Open Library)

When Amy, refusing the demotion, asks for a three-day week, Pippa glances stagily at her Hermes watch and laughs that it took five and a half minutes to surface, then warns that the new part-time laws will make the negotiation a long business. The text spells the maker without its accent and gives no model.
