From IMWDb
Unnatural Causes

Mark Olshaker's medical thriller was published by William Morrow in 1986. Brian Thorpe, once a Navy SEAL in the Mekong Delta and a Marine Corps medic, is a surgeon at Bethesda Naval Hospital when he begins asking why veterans of the Third Marine Division are dying in apparent accidents, a trail that brings him up against Diana Keegan of the Centers for Disease Control. Watches

Rolex watch
In the Mekong Delta, carrying the wounded McNeely through a mangrove swamp, Thorpe finds the green number dots on his Rolex diving watch gone fuzzy from loss of blood (p. 14). Years later, watching Diana Keegan jog off, he checks the black-faced Rolex diving watch, allows himself twenty of her thirty minutes and picks the lock of her room with a screwdriver. On a flight he glances at the steel Rolex and answers about two hours (p. 346). The maker is named; the model is not. The diving watch is so described; no model is named.

Source text: He glanced at the black-faced Rolex diving watch on his wrist. Thirty minutes, she'd said. (Mark Olshaker, Unnatural Causes, scan cataloged as William Morrow, 1986, p. 121; Internet Archive scan OCR)
