- Rolex watch
- Bill Gorman, the CIA's man in Islamabad and once a New York firefighter, wears a stainless steel Rolex that his wife Jeannie gave him at his FDNY graduation, as his version of a wedding band; he lost her to the same terrorists he fights. He taps it as a signal to a colleague (p. 81). Surviving a building's collapse into a tunnel, he hears his agent Maryam say it keeps on ticking, and counts the scratches on its sapphire crystal (pp. 320 to 321). In the mountains Maryam trades it to a village elder for clothes, food and two bicycles (p. 408). The maker is named; the model is not.
