Glashütte Original is a German manufacture based in Glashütte, Saxony, a town whose watchmaking history dates to Ferdinand Adolph Lange's arrival in 1845. The current company was formed in 1994 through the privatization of the East German state manufacturer VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe, which had itself operated since 1951. Glashütte Original makes roughly 95 percent of its components in-house and traces the flying tourbillon, invented by Glashütte watchmaker Alfred Helwig in 1921, to the same town. (Wikipedia)
