Jules Jurgensen traces its name to the Danish watchmaking dynasty founded in Copenhagen in 1740; Jules Frederik Jürgensen, a grandson of the line's founder, established a Swiss workshop under his own name in Le Locle in 1834, while the original Danish house continued separately as Urban Jürgensen & Sønner. An American firm acquired the Jules Jurgensen name in 1936, and the brand has since operated as an American-marketed watch line built around dress and cocktail watches that carry the "Estd. 1740" heritage marking on the dial.
