Lanco abbreviates Langendorf Watch Company, the Solothurn manufacture Johann Viktor Kottmann founded in 1873 that was probably the world's largest watch producer around 1890. Lanco became its principal brand in the late 1950s, lapsed in the late 1960s, and was revived from 1971 to around 1980 as the company's century of production closed. (Wikipedia)
