Orvis has outfitted American fly anglers since Charles F. Orvis opened his Manchester, Vermont tackle shop in 1856, making it one of the country's oldest mail-order retailers. Known for bamboo and later graphite fly rods and its sporting-traditions mail-order business, the company applies its name to field watches built by outside makers: quartz, military-styled, and priced for the riverbank.
