Raketa is Russian for rocket, the name the Petrodvorets Watch Factory adopted in honour of Yuri Gagarin's flight of 13 April 1961. The factory near St Petersburg traces to a lapidary works Peter the Great founded in 1721, and Raketa remains one of the few brands anywhere making its own movements end to end, including watches built for polar expeditions and the Soviet armed forces.
