Ruhla (VEB Uhrenwerk Ruhla) was East Germany's principal watch manufacturer, based in the Thuringian town of Ruhla and formed from the pre-war Thiel/UROFA-UFAG watch industry after 1945. Operating as a state-owned enterprise (VEB) for most of the GDR period, it produced manually wound and, later, quartz watches at high volume for both domestic and export markets, including simple novelty and children's watches with character-themed dials.
