Vendome Aoyama traces its history to 1973 and opened its first shop in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, in 1974; the name pays homage to the Place Vendôme in Paris and to Aoyama. Founder Minoru Yamada grew up in a family that carved ivory shamisen plectrums, and the house's first pieces were ivory jewellery. Its diamond-set steel watches sit beside the jewellery lines.
