Captain America (Steve Rogers) is a superhero created by writer/artist Joe Simon and artist Jack Kirby for Timely Comics, first appearing in Captain America Comics #1, cover-dated March 1941. A frail volunteer transformed into a peak-human super-soldier and equipped with an indestructible shield, he fought Axis villains in his Golden Age run before a decades-later revival cast him as "a man out of time" adjusting to the modern world. The character has since starred in his own long-running comic book series and been adapted across films, television series, and games, including Chris Evans's Marvel Cinematic Universe films beginning with Captain America: The First Avenger (2011).
