Captain Marvel is a superhero identity at Marvel Comics, first used by the alien Kree officer Mar-Vell, created by writer/editor Stan Lee and artist Gene Colan, in Marvel Super-Heroes #12, cover-dated December 1967. Carol Danvers debuted as a human officer in March 1968, in Marvel Super-Heroes #13. She later became Ms. Marvel and adopted the Captain Marvel name in 2012, and has since starred in her own long-running comic book series and been adapted across films, television series, and games, including Brie Larson's Marvel Cinematic Universe films beginning with Captain Marvel (2019).
