Captain Marvel is a superhero identity at Marvel Comics, first used by the alien Kree officer Mar-Vell, created by writer/editor Stan Lee and artist Gene Colan, in Marvel Super-Heroes #12, cover-dated December 1967. Carol Danvers, introduced the same year as the human officer Ms. Marvel, later inherited the Captain Marvel name and powers of flight, super-strength, and energy projection in 2012, and has since starred in her own long-running comic book series and been adapted across films, television series, and games, including Brie Larson's Marvel Cinematic Universe films beginning with Captain Marvel (2019).
